Your Place In Life!

We don’t get to choose.  We don’t have any input on the subject. Our opinion doesn’t matter.  When it comes to where and when you are born, it’s all up to God.  Many times I have passed a homeless person and said “for the grace of God go I”.  Many times as I talk with those in my charge from Mexico and I hear their stories I think “for the grace of God go I”.  Our opinions, as well as our interpretations and understanding of God, are skewed by our background and our geography.  I was born to a middle class, white family in America.  My idea of God and of christianity is formed thru a lens of privilege.  Do you ever wonder why God put you where you are, and why?  Why your career is what it is, and why your life road has headed in a certain direction?  Working in the janitorial business has keep my eyes open to the marginalized and frequently forgotten class of people.  I often say that people could learn a lot if they worked in my industry for a while.  On most days I am a counselor and a source of help more than that of an employer. Most days I am lending an attentive ear and an open heart. When I leave this place I’m not very interested that anyone declares me appropriately religious or properly Christian.  I’d rather have them say to the marginalized… the alone and hurting… the invisible… weary… wounded… tired people around me in this life… I was helpful.

I Love You! – Perry
