A Heart In The Sand!
According to the law she was suppose to die. She had cheated. According to the law, she got caught and stoning was her sentence. Never mind the man who got caught as well, she was the one paying the price. They had brought her to Jesus in hopes that he would defy Jewish law and be held accountable in the eyes of his followers. His posture during this scene tells us so much about his heart. He knelt beside her. He wrote in the sand. Maybe the name of the man she was caught with… maybe the names of those accusing her? The important thing is he got down to her level to let her know how much he cared. He got down there with her so that if a stone was thrown it would hit him also. He asked the one without sin to throw the first stone. Everyone dropped their stones and left. Before he told her to sin no more the first words out of his mouth were “where are your accusers? Where are the ones who condemn you? “There are none” she said. “Neither do I” was Jesus reply. He does the same for us. No matter your lifestyle. No matter your perceived sin or your moral decline he stands in the way of the stones that others will throw and he does not condemn. He gets down in the mud and the muck with you and holds your hand while he lifts you up with pure love. Others will judge! Others will condemn! Jesus simply draws you a heart in the sand.
