Do We Earn His Love?
Yes, God loves us unquestionably and effusively. Paul even says in Romans 8 that nothing… and he clarifies… not a single thing of heaven, hell, or earth can keep us from Gods love. Do we truly believe that or like a lot of scripture do we chose to overlook it if it doesn’t fit our agenda? That being said why are so many people, so anxious to point out other peoples presumed sin. As Christ followers we teach Paul words, but do we live them? Most religions and Christians teach that there are caveats and conditions under which we earn and keep his love: prerequisites for belonging among God and God’s people. Declaring our love for him never seems to be enough. We must follow certain rules, depending on the religion in question, to hasten his love. There are moral scores that need to be settled in order to be fully welcomed. Unwritten laws that supersede his love. So many Christians think if you do not believe what they believe, you are going to hell. I have been told that on more than one occasion, because I choose to accept and love everyone. I choose to meet people right where they live and I don’t expect them to follow my interpretation of scripture. I have a friend who “is not sure she is going to be at Christ side when she dies but she is working at it”.
It may be helpful to leave behind those scary stories of our childhood because they make for terrified adults, and terrified adults historically do not love very well: God OR Others!
