Laws or Love?
If we come to God by being perfect, no one is going to come to God. Our failures open our hearts of stone and move our rigid mind space toward understanding and patience.
—Richard Rohr
We tend, as humans, to lean toward rules and laws when it comes to God, and Christ. We like to know where we stand, as opposed to a feeling in the depth of our soul. It brings us comfort to say “I follow the ten commandments and scripture to best of my ability so I can have a seat by his side”. We struggle with truly understanding grace. Truly understanding unbridled love. When in fact Jesus faulted the pharisees for such behavior. “you burden people with your laws and rules”. When in fact in the book if Mark he said this “loving Christ with all your heart is more important than your offerings and sacrifice and more important than any other divine or church rules”. I listen to those and read from others that call themselves Christians, who do nothing more than use defamation when talking of those whom they think have sin in their life. They slander those with different lifestyles without ever mentioning their own sin and failures. I have known people with alternative lifestyles who loved the Lord with more fervor than those that claim they do, but spend so much energy on throwing stones. Christ said “cast stones only if you are without sin”. That would be no one! Every time God forgives sin he is saying that relationship matters more than his own rules. Think about that!
