Umwelt!
It’s called umwelt. It’s how you see things based on your position, and way of life. Ever thought of how much our circumstances, skew and alter our understanding of God. We had been to a repair shop to pickup a lawn mower. A police officer pulled us over for no apparent reason. He questioned me, an older man, who had a young black man wearing a hoodie in the passenger seat. As he pulled away my passenger, who worked for me, knew we were pulled over because he was black. That was his umwelt. A dog can smell one drop of urine in ten gallons of water. A dolphin can hear sounds as high as 150,000 hertz. An eagle can see a rodent on the ground from 15,000 feet. That’s almost three miles. My point is everything observes life from different view points. A dolphin different than an eagle. You different than me. How we experience God is based on our umwelt. We come to our understanding of scripture from different backgrounds and different beliefs. Does your God look like my God? Does your God judge and condemn or does he love and forgive? Almost every scripture and every book of the bible can be interpreted in different ways depending on your umwelt. So why are we as Christians so addicted to what we believe, as the absolute truth? There are 45,000 Christ based religions in the world today. How do we know which is right… which is wrong? We don’t! We simply have to follow Jesus and love others. He made it simple for a reason.
