Love Can Change A Life!
His name was Chris and he was a runner… away from home and into trouble. I was in charge of mentoring him and defending him in Foster Court. I had mentored many young men in my life so I knew what to do. To brighten his future and give him hope for tomorrow. He needed clothes so I got him clothes. He needed music, to calm him at night, so I got him that. Most of all he needed love. As time progressed he called me “POPS” and each night after visiting with him I would tell him “I love you” and after a time he said it back. His running slowed down and his outburst were subsiding. When in detention I would visit him daily. When they moved him to a boys home in Houston I went weekly to counsel and let him know someone cared. One night after visiting on the phone an employee of the home heard him say “I love you too”. At that moment everything changed. A call came and I was told that they were assigning him to another mentor. I was not allowed to say “I love you” to someone that needed to hear it the most. He ran as he always had. They asked me to contact him and reassure him that I still cared… even though they had removed me from his case. At 18 he came to live with Lorna and I for a while. Love is something everyone needs to feel. It is part of our DNA from Christ. Not sure where he is now. I pray for him a lot and I know God is watching over him. No matter what the world thinks… spread Jesus love as much as you can. It just might change a life.
