Why Did He Come?
It chases us without hasten. We try daily to forget it, but it is always there. No matter who you are in the world it still beckons and stays in the back of your mind. You can dismiss it on most days, but then worldly events or a doctors diagnoses reminds us of it. Death is hanging in the background like so many unseen stars on a bright shiny day. We know they are up there, but the sun will not let them be seen. On any given Sunday death is the topic of discussion at the local church. The pastor hands out what is sometimes known as “fire insurance”. What to do to not be frightened by death any longer. Then the question plaques me like a pesky fly. Do you think God sent his son Jesus only to save us from death or to teach us about daily love and how to truly live? Did he come just to save us for eternity or to show us his fathers heart? Is God so tied up in rule following that it overcomes his love for us? Or did Jesus come to show us that the rules are not as important as a life of love? Jesus himself said he came to set the prisoners free. Those prisoners were bound up because of breaking rules. Yet Jesus purpose was to set them free. Jesus didn’t care about the rules. His most important instruction was love for him and love for all others… no matter who. Pure love not only erases death but brings abundant life to this earthly place. I Love You! – Perry
