So We Should Be!

As I stood in Memphis, in the place he was shot… tears came uncontrollably.  I looked down only to see the blood stains that still litter the concrete.  Dr. King was killed for spreading love.  Gandhi was killed for spreading love.  Lincoln was killed for spreading love.  The one that hurts the most… our Savior Jesus Christ was killed for spreading love.  He was killed by the religious leaders of the day because he threatened their power.  He threatened their traditions and he put everyone on an even field.  He had the power of ten thousand angels but he chose love.  He had the wisdom of the ages but he chose love.  He had all the authority of the one who made the heavens and earth but he chose love.  He knew who’s son he was, and still he chose love.  That redefines God as the one who was willing to relinquish power for the sake of love.  Jesus became Gods unilateral disarmament.  Power… no matter how well intentioned tends to cause suffering.  Love, being vulnerable absorbs it.  In a point of convergence, on a hill called calvary, God renounced power… for the sake of love.  Daily I see the struggle for power.  In our jobs, in our politics, in our churches.  Humans want to have power over others.  Why do people act as they do in traffic?  To have a perceived power over someone else. If all who claim to follow Jesus, truly saw his life, they would see a man who relinquished power for the sake of love.  So is Jesus – So we should be.

I Love You! – Perry
